The support of our volunteers is vital to the success of our programming and operations! With a lean team of full-time professionals, we could not possibly accomplish all that is necessary to run the organization without the help from our intrepid volunteers. Our goal is for your service as a volunteer to be both fun and rewarding, while providing an invaluable service to the community. Volunteers play a critical role in the success of our mission, and we are deeply grateful.

Hermitage Programs and Events
We are always seeking volunteers to help with our community programs, both on the Hermitage Beach, as well as other venues throughout the greater Sarasota area. Some volunteers work with us regularly at Manasota Key events, while others work with us only at venues further north – and some of our regulars do both! Even if you can only help with a few events each season, that can still be very helpful to us. Hermitage programs include musical performances, theatrical readings, open studios and exhibitions, panel discussions, screenings, movement workshops, and more. Volunteers help us to set up and clean up after our events, in addition to assisting with parking guidance, check-in, survey collection, and helping us to secure contact information of new attendees for our mailing list.
Grounds and Buildings Maintenance
Help keep our campus looking great! We have volunteers who love to care for our unique ecological grounds, and with our nearly nine acres of beachfront campus, we have plenty of property in which they can help us to maintain this beautiful landscape. While we engage a professional service to mow the lawn and trim the trees, we can often use help for beautification plantings, removal of invasive species, or other special projects. Other volunteers are quite handy, and with five historic buildings directly on the Gulf, there is always something that needs to be fixed!
Hermitage Archives
Help us to organize and scrapbook the Hermitage story! Our scrapbookers archive our press and media, published works of our Hermitage Fellows, as well as any other record of our activities for posterity.
Transportation and Shopping
Drive our accomplished and diverse artists from all over the world to and from SRQ Airport! Artists are arriving and departing all the time. That means many runs to Sarasota, and occasionally other airport locations. We are deeply grateful to our volunteer drivers who make this possible. These volunteers are the first people our Hermitage artists meet when they arrive, and the last they see when they leave, so this is vital ambassadorship. (Additional paperwork will be required, and we will reimburse for gas.)
Administration Support
Support our Hermitage staff with data entry and special projects. We live and die by our database records! They are our essential for growing and communicating with our audiences. Some volunteers help us with data entry from surveys collected, or other database needs – not to mention other special projects that seem to pop up on a regular basis.
Get the Word Out
Spread the word about the Hermitage by attending events and bringing friends along to join the fun! Our volunteers are among our most active ambassadors in the community, and the majority of our volunteers come from referrals.
